In Matera a Conference on a more human Economy

"Ethics, Culture and Beauty. Roads to a new economy"

In  Matera European Capital of Culture, guardian of a heritage of universal value that in 1993 was awarded the seal of UNESCO, on 29 and 30 March  will be held the national conference "Ethics, Culture and Beauty.  Roads to a new economy": an opportunity to reflect on alternative models of development to the current one, which mortifies human beings rather than enhancing thier dignity, and on the contribution that ethics, culture and beauty can offer in the process of humanization of  economy.

In the wake of its commitment to a cultural change that puts the person at the center and promotes an integral ecology, and according to the spirit of the Encyclical Laudato si', in which Pope Francis exhorts "to change the model of global development" and to reflect responsibly on the meaning of the economy and its purpose, in order to correct the distortions, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development co-organizes the event together with the Episcopal Conference of Basilicata, the association Libera, the National Foundation Interesse Uomo, Cestrim (Centre for Studies and Research on Southern Realities) and Banca Popolare Etica.

The conference - presented this morning at the Episcopal Curia in Matera - will take place in the Conference Hall of the Chamber of Commerce and will deal with banking biodiversity and ethical finance, environment and beauty, mafia and corruption.

Among participants are the Archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Msgr. Salvatore Ligorio; the Bishop of Tursi-Lagonegro, Msgr. Vincenzo Orofino; the Archbishop of Matera-Irsina, Msgr. Antonio Giuseppe Caiazzo; Fr. Marcello Cozzi, President of the National Foundation Interesse Uomo. Among those present, will be the Prosecutor of the District anti-mafia in Potenza, Francesco Curcio, and the extraordinary Commissioner of the Government for the fight against racketeering and usury, Annapaola Porzio.
