Since April 2026, the corridors of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (DPIHD) in Rome have featured a new installation entitled “Life in Abundance”, echoing the passage from the Gospel of John: "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.", which best describes the mission of the pontifical office.
The work of art, conceived by Kaleidon and created by Mela-P, depicts a flowing river, a symbol of life. Water, indeed, is essential to life and is often associated with purification, both physical and spiritual.
The flowing river is represented with cobblestones, on which various aspects of integral human development are illustrated and described, through the key events and elements of the DPIHD’s work.
The water smooths and envelops these pebbles, rounding off their edges, just as the Dicastery, in its aim to accompany the People of God, works to remove the obstacles to integral human development.
The work serves as a continuation of the previous installation, “The Tree of Human Life”, which depicts the history of the four Pontifical Councils that merged to form the DPIHD in 2017. As in the previous work, with the aim of creating a narrative continuum, the background features a procession of faces from different backgrounds, places and of different ages, representing the humanity that the Dicastery wishes to serve.
