The Holy Father sends aid to earthquake-stricken Mexico

After the extraordinary violent earthquake that struck Mexico, that has claimed (according to established, but not yet definitive, data) at least 250 victims, as well causing as extensive material damages, Pope Francis, through the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has decided to send a first contribution of $150,000 to aid the population in this emergency phase.

This contribution, in collaboration with the Apostolic Nunciature, will be divided between the dioceses most affected by the disaster, and will be used for relief works for those affected by the earthquake.   It is intended as an immediate expression of the sentiment of spiritual closeness and paternal encouragement towards the afflicted persons and territories, expressed by the Holy Father during the General Audience of 20 September 2017.

This generous gift, together with prayers directed particularly to the Virgin of Guadalupe in support of the beloved Mexican people, is part of the aid efforts that are being activated throughout the Catholic Church and which involve, in addition to various Episcopal Conferences, numerous charitable organisms.
