Cardinal Czerny attends the Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon in Brazil

The Prefect for the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Cardinal Michael Czerny S.J., participates in the Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA), held in Manaus, Brazil, from August 7-12, 2023.

This event brings together members of 105 ecclesial jurisdictions from seven countries of the Pan-Amazon biome.

CEAMA was established canonically by Pope Francis on October 9, 2021 following the proposal in the Final Document of the Synod on the Amazon to create a "permanent and representative episcopal body to promote synodality in the Amazon region."

Cardinal Michael Czerny has closely accompanied the pastoral challenges of the region, from the creation of the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM) to organization of the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops held at the Vatican in October 2019 with the theme "Amazonia: New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology."
