The Global Common Good. Towards a more inclusive Economy

In 2016, the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace (now merged into the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development) published the Proceedings of a two-day Seminar on the theme The Global Common Good: towards a more Inclusive Economy, held on the 11-12 July 2014, at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Casina Pio IV, in Vatican City.

This invitational Seminar brought together leaders and experts from a number of areas. Economists bankers and heads of international and intergovernmental organizations joined representatives of the Church and non-governmental Organizations.

The Holy Father is responsible for both the idea for the Seminar and the impulse to have it take place as he recognizes the great contributions made by business and finance to human development over the centuries.

This Seminar helped the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace to reflect on how the economy might extend the benefits and reverse the gaping inequalities and worsening exclusions. We continue to seek additional insights and help in better understanding how to improve the shared lot of humankind within a globalized economy, and enable an estimated two billion people to escape from dire poverty.

The volume is available in Libreria Editrice Vaticana corner shops, in Catholic bookstores, and can easily be found in online stores.
