The Jubilee of the Indigenous People of Latin America and the Caribbean

From October 14 to 16, the virtual Jubilee of the Indigenous People of Latin America and the Caribbean will take place with the aim of being “a unique space to share experiences as pilgrims of hope together with our indigenous people, authentic custodians of culture and our common home.”

The initiative has been organized by the Advisory Team on Indian Theology, in coordination with the Pastoral Care of Indigenous People of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM) and the Latin American Ecumenical Articulation of Indigenous Pastoral Care (AELAPI).

The invitation is addressed to: the indigenous people of Latin America and the Caribbean, bishops, priests, religious men and women, pastoral agents who share their lives with indigenous communities, as well as to all the People of God and people of good will who recognize in them a source of ancestral wisdom that determines much of our culture.

You can participate via Zoom or the Celam TV YouTube channel at 6:00 p.m. (Colombia time).

According to the event program, each day is dedicated to a specific population: October 14 to young people, October 15 to women, and October 16 to older people (the “wise men and women”).

During this initiative, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Cardinal Michael Czerny SJ, sent a video message in which he thanked God for the witness they offer: "Your love for the earth, your respect for the elderly, your sense of community, and your ability to live in harmony with creation are a gift to the whole Church. You teach that life is best understood when lived simply, in relationship with God, with nature, and with others."

“I invite you to continue caring for your communities, passing on the wisdom of your ancestors to new generations and joyfully proclaiming the Good News of Jesus, who came to bring life in abundance for all. May Holy Mary of Guadalupe, Mother of the true God for whom we live, always close and protective, accompany you continually with tenderness,” said Cardinal Czerny.
