Integral Human Development and the Catholic Prison Pastoral Care (7-8 November 2019)

A meeting to promote and support the care of people in prison

Integral Human Development and the Catholic Prison Pastoral Care (7-8 November 2019)

Some of the ecclesial bodies dedicated to the prison pastoral care have recently pointed out to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development the need to receive support and guidance for their important work, especially in the face of the difficulties they experience in their work. One of the main challenges is the lack of support from diocesa communities to these brothers and sisters in need, inside prisons and after the sentence is extinguished.

For this reason, the Dicastery invited prison chaplaincies from different parts of the world to the Vatican, on 7 and 8 November, so as to be able to reopen the dialogue begun by the former Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and with the aim of fostering mutual knowledge for greater coordination between chaplaincies.

Participants, about forty and coming from 35 countries, met the Holy Father Francis in audience in Clementina Hall, on November 8th.
