The new general secretary of Caritas Internationalis Aloysius John has sworn this morning to Card. Peter K.A. Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Integral Human Development Service, during the Mass celebrated in the Chapel of the same Dicastery.
The act was carried out in compliance with the provisions of the General Decree of the Confederation (Article 5), recently updated by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, published on 31 May 2019, which indicates in the DSSUI the competent body for CI within the Roman Curia.
The previous decree, approved in 2012, assigned these powers to the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, later absorbed by the DSSUI on 17 August 2016, in the path of reform of the Curia initiated by Pope Francis.
