On April 28, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development welcomed Msgr. Anthony Onyemuche Ekpo as its new Undersecretary. He will collaborate in the work of Prefect Card. Michael Czerny, Secretary Sr. Alessandra Smerilli and Undersecretary Fr. Fabio Baggio.
At the beginning of Msgr. Ekpo's first day of work, Cardinal Czerny presided at a Mass concelebrated by the priests of the Dicastery and attended by many of the lay officials.
Afterwards, Msgr. Ekpo participated in an informal meeting to get to know his new colleagues personally.
Finally, the four superiors of the Dicastery welcomed a group of Bishops who are making their Ad Limina Apostolurum Visit.
Msgr. Ekpo was appointed by Pope Francis to his new position on April 18 . Earlier, since September 5, 2016, he had been an officer of the General Affairs Section of the Secretariat of State. He was appointed Chaplain to His Holiness on March 17, 2023.
Msgr. Ekpo was born on September 24, 1981 in Umudike, Nigeria. He was ordained a priest on July 30, 2011 for the Diocese of Umuahia. He completed a Doctorate in Systematic Theology at the Australian Catholic University in 2013 and a Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2021.
