‘Seeds of Peace and Hope’ is the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation 2025, an occasion on which the Holy Father has written a Message directed to the Catholic Church and all people of good will.
The Message calls for prayer so that the conditions for peace may be created, a lasting and communally built peace that inspires hope. The metaphor of the seed indicates the need for long-term commitment. In the message are illustrated good practices and seeds of peace and hope from different continents.
The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation opens the Time of Creation - an ecumenical initiative that takes place from 1 September to 4 October. The theme for the 2025 edition, a jubilee year and the tenth anniversary of the publication of the Encyclical Laudato si', is “Peace with Creation”. Isaiah 32:14-18 has been chosen as the Biblical reference text for this initiative.
As emphasised in the Magisterium of Pope Francis and his recent predecessors, the connection between peace and care for creation is very close (cf. Messages for the 1990 and 2010 World Day of Peace). Similarly, the connection between war and violence on the one hand, and degradation of the common home and waste of resources (destruction and armaments) on the other, is very close.
