Conferito il titolo di Master in International Public Affairs dalla Luiss School of Government
Master Honoris Causa per Sr. Alessandra Smerilli FMA, Segretario del Dicastero per il Servizio dello Sviluppo Umano Integrale (DSSUI). In occasione delle celebrazioni per il 15° Anniversario della Luiss School of Government, il 25 giugno 2026 Sr. Smerilli è stata insignita del titolo di Master in International Public Affairs. L'evento si è aperto con la proiezione di un video celebrativo e i saluti istituzionali del Rettore dell’Istituto, il Dott. Paolo Boccardelli, seguito da varie Autorità Accademiche.
La Laudatio del Prof. Sergio Fabbrini,Professore Emerito di Scienza Politica e Relazioni Internazionali e past Dean della Luiss School of Government, ha aperto la prima sessione introducendo Sr. Alessandra Smerilli che ha tenuto una Lectio magistralis sul tema “Creare il possibile”.
Condividendo con i presenti l’esperienza personale di una missione in India, Sr. Alessandra ha riflettuto sulla possibilità di “creare il possibile” anche là dove le condizioni lo rendono difficoltoso. “Il possibile nasce sempre da una tensione interiore che nessuna condizione materiale riesce del tutto a spegnere” ha detto Sr. Alessandra.
Questo vale anche in ambito politico o economico: “Governare significa orientare una società verso un futuro desiderabile: individuare spazi di sviluppo umano che ancora non esistono e creare le condizioni perché possano emergere e rimuovere gli ostacoli allo sviluppo che ne frenano la crescita e l’innovazione”
Sr. Smerilli ha ricordato che in questo processo di creazione tutti devono essere coinvolti, anche chi vive ai margini. Ha sottolineato che il possibile non deve essere creato solo da chi ha potere decisionale e, come ripeteva Papa Francesco, gli scartati non devono essere semplicemente i destinatari delle politiche pubbliche, ma protagonisti della costruzione del futuro.”
Sr. Smerilli ha concluso sottolineando un aspetto personale che esprime un “possibile” che si è dovuto creare: “ancora oggi c’è chi fatica a mettere insieme le parole “suora” ed “economista”. Eppure la vita è piena di incontri tra mondi che sembravano inconciliabili. Ognuno di noi porta dentro di sé possibilità che nessuna categoria riesce a esaurire”.
La seconda Lectio Magistralis in programma durante la serata è stata tenuta dal Prof. Giuliano Da Empoli preceduta dalla Laudatio del Prof. Giovanni Orsina.
La cerimonia si è conclusa con il conferimento dei riconoscimenti a cui hanno partecipato anche il Sottosegretario del DSSUI Mons. Jozef Barlaš, il Capo Ufficio P. Avelino Chico e alcuni Officiali
